GENERAL WASTE
Poor waste management can lead to declining environmental health conditions and contribute to disease outbreaks.
Therefore, Milcor and Office de Voirie de Djibouti (OVD) have formed a collaboration to manage general garbage in Djibouti, with the goal of establishing a cost-effective and integrated management system.
This collaboration is consistent with the global trend of government-private collaborations to improve waste management initiatives. Public institutions in developing economies will be able to provide better waste management services thanks to Milcor's experience and skills as well as OVD's infrastructure.
THE PROCESS
Environmental pollution threats marine life and lead to the global warming.
Here is an overview of the processes involving collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal.
STEP 1
Collection
Step 2
MILCOR manages waste collection through curbside, bins, and drop-off points.
Transportation
Waste is transferred to a waste transfer station or an OVD landfill site to be consolidated and readied for eventual disposal.
Step 3
Treatment
The volume of waste is reduced and made manageable for disposal by waste treatment techniques include mechanical sorting, compaction, shredding, or incineration.
Step 4
Disposal
Landfilling and incineration are appropriate methods for getting rid of non-recyclable general trash, as they have a minimal negative impact on the environment.
